Sandals and Towels (following and serving)
By Pst. James Kimathi
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matt. 28:118-20, NIV).
Throughout the Bible, Jesus spoke a lot on discipleship and its two components; followership and service. So important is discipleship that Jesus, in the verse above, ties the believer’s authority to the making of disciples.
When Jesus declared the extent of his authority, he invested that authority in the command “make disciples”. If you ever exercise the authority of Christ on earth it must yield the result of making disciples of Christ. If that does not happen, you have wasted the authority given to you.
I would want to assure you that every resource, whether spiritual or physical, you need to make disciples for Christ is already available. Therefore, make every effort to point people to Jesus in everything you do.
