The three spiritual laws
By Pastor James Kimathi
The German priest and theologian Martin Luther once remarked; “If the Bible were a ring then Romans would be the gem that enhanced that ring…Romans 8 would be the brilliant splendor that emanated from that ring.”
Our anchor scripture for the current topic is from Romans 7: 25 and Romans 8: 1-2. We will not quote them seeing as they are long but I highly encourage you to read through them.
The bulk of what is covered in the Romans 7 has to do with three spiritual laws that we will cover. These are the law of the mind, the law of the flesh and the law of the spirit. Having an indepth understanding of these three is essential because they are the forces that operate in the life of the believer.
When Paul talks about law in the context of Romans 7, he is not reffering to law as the system of rules governing a jurisdiction and whoch attract penalties if not followed, rather he is reffering to principles.
A principle is a fundamental truth that serves as a foundation for belief or behaviour. I would also define a principle as a tact you employ to achieve results. For example, we know that if you throw an orange up, the only expected result is that it will come back down due to gravitational pull.
When you understand how the three principles work, you begin to experience the kind of life described in 2 Peter 1: 5-8.
5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control [a]perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither [b]barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. (NKJV)
The victory of the human race is having the law of the spirit of life operating more powerfully in your life than the law of the mind and flesh. If the things mentioned in the scripture above don’t abound, the Bible says you become shortsighted and forget you have been cleansed from old sin.
I pray for you that as we continue with this topic, you will gain a mastery of the three laws so that you enter the victorious life.
