The Abundant Life (God's original plan)
By Min. MaryAnne Kamau
10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly (John 10:10, NKJV)
We established in our post yesterday that the original intent for God was that man dominate and rule over all creation.
I want to draw your attention to the scripture above. Notice that in the above verse, it says that Christ came to give us abundant life. This then means that by the time of the coming of Christ we did not have life. So what happened between the time God asked man to dominate the earth and when Christ came to bring abundant life? We find this answer still in Genesis 3 which describes the fall of man.
Notice that in John 10:10, the Bible says that the thief does not come except to steal, kill and destroy and this was the exact thing he did during the fall of man.
Most of us are familiar with the history of our country Kenya. We are aware that we were under British colonial rule until we decided that we wanted to rule ourselves. The British then had to leave the country.
Drawing a parallel from this, you realise that Adam and Eve were under delegate aythority in the garden of Eden. They still were under the rule of God until the devil lied to them and they decided to cut themselves from their maker and their King who is God.
Back to the coloniaism story, when Kenya was under British colonial rule, every development need of Kenya was the responsibility of the queen and King of England. They ensured that there was proper infrastructure in the country. However, when they left, this responsibility was no longer under Britain.
Similalry, for as long as Adam and Eve were in the graden of Eden and obeying the instructions of God, their needs were the responsibility of the King. However when man fell, they lost their priviledge and standing fending for themselves.
Moreover, due to the actions of Adam and Eve sin entered the world. The Bible says that by the actions of one man sin entered the world. We know that God created Adam alone from the soil and we all came from Adam. Therefore, as Adam was sinning we were in him and by that alone we all became sinners. It’s not even about what you do or fail to do. You already are a born a sinner.
Does it mean that we are forever doomed because of the actions of Adam?No we are not. Watch out for tomorrow’s devotional to find out God’s plan to get us out of the first Adam’s mess.
