It all happens in the mind!
Firstly, let’s note that there is a difference between the brain and the mind. The brain is a tangible physical organ inside one’s skull and is made up of blood vessels. On the other hand, the invisible part, which cannot be touched, is the conscious that speaks to us, that which connects to things, which is the mind. Thus, the thoughts, attitudes, and intentions happen in the mind.
Romans 12:1-2 states, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
The brain is the hardware, whereas the mind is the software. When a virus corrupts the software, the hardware is affected. It is physical but not useful for anything. We know that antivirus software protects computers from viruses. That said, we need to desire the Holy Spirit because He detects things that are coming around to corrupt our minds.
We need to renew our minds daily. We cannot expect to have godly thoughts if we expose ourselves to things that corrupt our minds. Ephesians 4:21-27 posits that we ought to put off our old man, who grows conduct according to deceitful lust, and put on the new man. When we are born again, the old nature is eradicated, and we get a new operating system that catches the wavelength of heaven. When something new comes carrying light, it clears the darkness away.
According to Ephesians 4:27, we should not give the devil a foothold. We are the functions of our thoughts. What we think about daily forms our character; thus, we must guard our minds by filtering our thoughts and focusing on what is true and correct.
Furthermore, Philippians 4:8 showcases that the mind is a battlefield. Most spiritual battles happen in the mind. Thus, we ought to take the thoughts captive and make them obedient to Christ. On the other hand, our minds are not dustbins. We should not allow the devil to always dump garbage in our minds. What we expose our minds to everyday shapes who we become. That said, we should catch every thought in our minds and ask God if it is correct, always letting God be the general on our battlefields because He has already won it.
We will win if our minds are sure, conscientious, and sensitive in the spirit. If the devil wins it in our minds, he will start to control us by bringing lies into our minds. However, when our minds are renewed, we will see opportunities others have not seen.
It is important to note that the mind sees invisible things to the physical eye. If we allow ourselves to be defeated, the devil starts planting defeat in our minds. When the devil appears and starts bringing funny thoughts, arrest him and take him to Jesus because when God has said He will do it, He will certainly do it. Moreover, our minds direct our lives. For instance, if we think we will be victorious, we will be victorious. Thus, we should ask God to direct our minds so that we are always sensitive to Him.
There is a way that may look so good before man’s eyes, but ultimately, it leads to destruction. Therefore, seeing in the spirit helps us in acting in faith. If we have seen in the mind and God has shown us what we will become, we will surely become. Unfortunately, if we operate in our brains, we will not see it, but if we operate in the spirit, we will see it.
The mind’s power to imagine is a precursor to walking on God’s promises. We must stretch our minds and expand our capacity to think and imagine greatness.
What do we benefit when we have a mind focused on God?
- If we want to be fruitful, we should have a renewed mind by allowing God to renew our minds. We should have our minds delivered and renewed daily. As James 1:22 portrays, we should be practitioners of the word and practice the word of God that we hear daily.
- If our minds focus on God’s word, our actions will align. Therefore, we will have fruitful minds.
- A renewed mind will help us in conquering earthly struggles. In this, we will practically major on the majors and minor on the minors, enabling us to be successful as we set our minds on the things above but not on the things below. As Psalms 119:105 portrays, the word of God is light to our path and a lamp to our feet, which means that God guides our steps.
- A mind that is focused on God enables us to think positively. We cannot live positive lives with a negative mind. On the other hand, we cannot complain about peace when our minds are full of panic. What is more, if we think of defeat, we will be defeated; if we think about victory, we will be victorious. The farther we see in our minds a glorious believer, the more victorious we will be because the glory of the Lord will shine on us. As such, we ought to stretch our minds and embrace a positive imagination.
- When our minds are renewed daily, they will rebuild the character that the world now wants to have. Thoughts result in action, action leads to habits, and thoughts lead to character. As such, wrong thinking leads to wrong living. As stated in Colossians 3:23, whatever we do, we should do it as though to the Lord and not to men. When our boss is the Lord, we do everything for Him. We cannot end up doing funny things. Thus, staying alert is crucial. Moreover, guarding and directing our minds towards Godly things is paramount. What is in our minds should be directed by what is godly. We must be intentional because if we do not program our minds, the world will program them. Let us always focus our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
Conclusively, let us be humble, acknowledging that Jesus humbled himself to death, but be very strong in our minds. Let us focus on being objective in our spirit, maintaining humility similar to Christ’s, and living as goldy people. We should note that God has given us the gift of a mind to think, worship, and obey the Lord. Thus, being sober and filtering all viruses is essential. A mind anchored in God brings peace and purpose. Therefore, if we win the mind, we will have won it. We will win the mind by reading the Bible daily, praying, going to church, surrounding ourselves with people who will build us, and detaching ourselves from sin because sin will keep us away from God.
