Sandals and Towels (following and serving)
By Pst. James Kimathi
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matt. 28:118-20, NIV).
Following Jesus is not an exercise in futility. Rather, it attracts several benefits in the life of a believer.
One of the advantages of following Christ is that we get to reign with him.
27 Peter answered him, “We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?”
28 Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife[a] or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. 30 But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first. (Matt. 19:27-30, NIV).
Another benefit is that anything you lost because of following Christ is restored fully; a 100 fold.
Another benefit is that you receive eternal life. Finally, God honors anyone that follows Christ.
