Unlocking the Power Within
By Pastor James Kimathi
What is that power that is locked within every believer? What are its manifestations? There are a few distinguishing characteristics as will be described below.
The first characteristic is Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.
6 This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.
7 I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God’s grace given me through the working of his power. (Eph. 3:6-7 NIV).
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ is the divin substance deposited in us that enables us to overcome every situation we face. Paul calls it the effective working of the power of God in us. There are things you are able to do, not because you had the strength, but because of the grace of God.
The second manifestation of the power within is the resurrection power of Christ which manifests through gifts and annointings of the Holy Spirit.
19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, (Eph. 1:19-20, NIV).
Sometimes our reaction to death is fear and great helplessness. Nevertheless, for a believer, death does not come to lock us out but to reveal us. Every dead thing around us must come alive because inherent in us is the resurrection power of the Spirit of Christ.
The power within also manifests as faith in God. Faith here comprises of our faith in the finished work of the cross and in the person of Jesus. It includes the knowledge that whatever is born of God overcomes the world.
Knowing that the God you serve could not be held in the grave causes you to have confidence in the face of hardships.Â
17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal (2 Cor. 4:17-18, NIV).
Every affliction you face should affirm more exceeding glory in your life.
