The 3 spiritual laws (contd.)

The three spiritual laws (The law of the flesh)

By Pastor James Kimathi

The second spiritual law is the law of the flesh also called the law of sin and death. Just like the law of the mind, this law also has several distinguishing traits.

The first trait of the law of the flesh is that it is opportunistic.

When you read the Bible, this trait can be seen right from the book of Genesis 4.

Cain gave an offering to God but it was rejected while that of his brother Abel was accepted. Cain’s reaction was extreme jealousy and anger against his brother.  The Lord, seeing Cain’s reaction, warned him against the dangers of his unchecked emotions.

If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” (Gen. 4:7, NKJV).

The law of sin exploits moments of weakness in a believer’s spirit man. This is why as Pastors and ministers of the gospel, we are advised to go into seclusion with God or with men who are on fire from God, when we are tired from ministry.

Anger as an emotion is not a bad emotion. However, if you do not watch out, sin takes advantage of anger to work the works of sin in you and produce death.

11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me (Rom. 7:11, NKJV)

What does sin kill? Your faith, your desire for God, your love for prayer… This is why there is a lot of unbelief in church.

Yet another trait of the law of sin and death is that it works in the members of our body unabated.

17 But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. 19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. 20 Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me (Rom. 7:17-20, NKJV)
