The 3 spiritual laws (contd.)

The three spiritual laws (The law of the mind)

By Pastor James Kimathi

The law of the mind is also called the law of God or God’s holy law or God’s commandments. Why is it called the law of the mind?

If, for example, you did not know that adultery is wrong and I told you that indeed adultery is wrong, the first place that information registers is your brain. Almost immediately, you want to do the right thing. God’s law thus becomes the law of your mind. As another example, imagine walking into a church service, perhaps a church you have never attended before, and while there you experience such a move of God, the most likely occurence is that you will desire to be like the people in that church. It has registered in your mind that what those people are doing is good and desirable and it might even become your pursuit to be like those people.

When you know the law of God, it sensitizes you that what you have done or are doing is sin and you start experiencing guilt.

The law of God has several distinctive traits as we see in Romans 7.

God's law has dominion over a man for as long as he lives

7 Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law), that the law [a]has dominion over a man as long as he lives? (Rom. 7: 1, NKJV)

One of the traits of the law of God is that it dominates over every man regardless of who they are. I have a young son and every time he eats sugar, his first instinct is to find a way to clean himself and hide what he has done, mind you, no one taught him this. This is because the law of God dominates over everyone as long as they are alive.

It is important to note that the law intimidates, oppreses and births legalism unless one is birthed into another life.

Those who strive to keep the law of God will always fall short of keeping it. They fall under a yoke and oppression  of legalism and live a life of fear and shame of always falling short the requirements of God’s law. The outcome is that they are under the law us slaves and as opposed to being sons.

The modern church has many such people who come to church and all they receive is legal instructions. That is why a church that does not preach or teach impartation, though having correct doctrine, is more likely to have defeated christians. This is because while the believers receive  requirements they should meet, they do not get empowered to meet those  requirements. Unfortunatey, knowing the law of God does not empower you to keep it.
